My optometrist says the back of my eyes are thinning?

She says that because of my being nearsighted that the back of my eyes are thinning and could eventually develop holes. I asked her if having corrective laser surgery to fix my vision (Lasik) would prevent that from deteriorating any farther, and she told me that it wouldn't help. She is severely against Lasik, so I'm just wondering if she was trying to talk me out of it, or if that's the truth
