I'm trying to install fedora core to my computer but its not picking up monitor.?

I have a Dell xps 400 with a dell color monitor (unfortunately I cant find out any more information about it). I'm trying to install Fedora core (4 or 5 I cant remember which) from linux for dummies cd. Fedora probes for my devices but when it reaches my monitor it can't read it. Then the monitor goes black and says it cant read og input (the monitor menu is also disabled) I don't think I have the cd for the monitor either. Is there a way to help fedora read my monitor?
