How far inland should i go to avoid hurricane Ike, I live in Corpus Christi, TX, and......?

my car won't make it to San Antonio where i have family. I'm wondering how far inland would be considered safe( i don't care if i'm where it's still raining, just not the worst of it)....and i live in an older apt. and im worried about staying here, but i need get out of here but to where my car won't break down on me.
